Insurance Restoration - Fire Damage

“Stop, drop, and roll” may prevent you from catching on fire, but what's the solution when its your home? There is no 3 step prevention method, but there is a way to restore your home and belongings. At Showcase Home Improvement we know fires can be unpredictable and unsubdued, and we are here to lend a hand when you're suffering the damage.

Whether you've experienced a few flames or a major fire, no job is too small. We know how different materials react in the event of an exposure to fire, heat, or smoke and how to minimize the damage. Following a fire, your home may still be dangerous. Sleeping, cooking, and  worst of all breathing in the smoke after a fire puts you and your family's health at risk. It's important to contact us as soon as possible so we can restore the cleanliness of your home and air.

So, what should you do? Give us a call after the immediate extinguish of your fire. Don't hesitate, get heated, or hang around in the smoky environment, because the conditions are not safe.

There are some steps you can take right away at home to minimize damage:

  1. If you must turn off your water, do so under safe conditions. Call a plumber or other qualified tradesman if you need help.
  2. If you have lost power, remove perishable foods from your refrigerator and freezer. The odor caused by spoiled foods is nearly impossible to remove.
  3. If you dispose of any materials or purchase any products that aid in protecting your property, keep a list of the expenses
  4. Call your insurance company ASAP and report the damage.

Prior to our arrival, there are some quick-fixes you can do to temporarily slow down the damage.

However, keep in mind that your health and safety are more important than your possessions. After contacting your local fire department, here are some steps you can take for protection:
  1. Windows: Open a few windows, if possible, to allow ventilation throughout your house.
  2. Ceilings/walls: Do not attempt to wash any absorbent surfaces.
  3. Carpets: Vacuum loose smoke particles from your carpets. However, avoid walking or tracking on carpet if possible. Do not attempt to use any chemicals or “do it yourself” carpet cleaners.
  4. Furniture: Avoid sitting on, cleaning, or changing upholstered furniture and drapes.
  5. Appliances/Electronics: Do not turn on ANY electronic appliances until you have talked to a technician. This includes the TV, stereo, microwave, etc.
  6. Pets: Temporarily remove pets from home to prevent health risks.
  7. Plants: If still standing, cleanse the plant with soap and water.
  8. Plumbing: If the heat will be turned off in the winter, call a plumber to winterize the system.

Remember: There's no such thing as a small fire. If you are experiencing the damage from one call us immediately and we will be there to help you confidently restore your home.
